It’s Hard, Being a Person

Thank god you survived! Given what you’ve been through, I’m so glad you made it this far so that we could be here together on my blog page! Yes, I’m talking to you. I’m sure you know people who have been through “far worse things than you”, but that doesn’t mean you should discount or invalidate all of what you had to get through to make it to this point.

It’s hard, being a person! This seems to be a universal.

Now, don’t get me wrong. I love being a person! It’s one of the best things I’ve ever done, and it just keeps getting better. Everyone, however, without exception, has their challenges to face. We need to give each other compassion in the face of those challenges, and we need to use those challenges to find out how to make it easier for ourselves and for all the new humans who keep coming along . . .

Steve Bearman, Ph.D., earned his doctorate in Psychology from the University of California, Santa Cruz. He founded Interchange Counseling Institute in 2002 and is the lead teacher of Interchange's San Francisco-based year-long counseling and coaching training. When he's not counseling people, leading workshops, and advocating for social justice, Steve climbs mountains, adventures in the urban wilderness, explores the edges and limits of what's possible, deconstructs everything, and finds new ways to put it all back together.
